The object is a Dhokra deer sculpture. Dhokra is a traditional Indian metal casting technique, famous for its raw, antique finish and intricate geometric patterns. Originating from tribal artisans in regions like Bastar (Chhattisgarh), Odisha, and West Bengal, Dhokra art is created using the lost-wax process. This particular piece is crafted in brass, with a finely detailed meshwork body and characteristically stylized features such as exaggerated antlers and textured surfaces. The deer symbolizes gentleness, grace, swiftness, and natural beauty, and such figurines are used both for décor and gifting.
